Challenge
Arranged by Enduro Africa, on behalf of the charity, Riders for Health, the Parliament Enduro team, along with numerous other teams and individuals, will attempt to complete a 1700km journey. Using Yamaha AG200 trail bikes, the Parliament Enduro team will embark on a gruelling off road adventure, encountering temperatures ranging from 0 to 90 degrees, sand storms, rain storms, mountains, river crossings and possible intervention from local wild life. Apparently Rhino find motor cyclists to be particularly good targets to charge at.
The Route
Depart Durban and ride into the famous 'Valley of a 1000 hills' and head for the Wild Coast. Along the Wild Coast we tackle the mighty Mtentu River and Mkambati Gorge before arriving at Port St John's on the banks of the Umzimvubu River. The next day is spent riding through the Cremorne estates in the tropical forest region. We then have the choice of reaching Coffee Bay by the manageable Low Road, or the more challenging (Treachorous) High Road. We will make the decision when we get there; only injury, or mechanical problems will stop us from taking the High Road. The next day's ride sees us hug the rugged coastline past the holiday villages of Mpande and Presley Bay. The following day becomes even more challenging, with rocky river crossings, muddy forest sections and the fast grass banks next to the beach. Next up is the Hole in the Wall, the Haven Nature Reserve and the Bashee River, then the Gorge across the Qora River and along the coast, past the wreck of the Jacaranda, across the Kei river by motorised ferry to Morgans Bay. Back inland we pass through the port City of East London and on to Port Alfred on the banks of the Cowie River. The final leg is through the Big 5 Reserves of Kariega to Port Elizabeth.
